In Memory of...
|
Born in Winona, MN in 1926, Dennis Ray Keizer moved with his family to Hawaii in January 1940. Dennis was a 15 year old living across the street from Hickam Field on Dec. 7, 1941. Fortunately, he recently preserved the story of those years for his grandchildren. |
Dennis' first 30 year career was as a teacher, vice principal and principal in the Long Beach Unified School District. Although he worked at several elementary schools, his favorite assignment was planning, staffing and opening the state-of-the-art Hudson Elementary School where he served as principal from 1969-1976. The staff worked hard and played hard; their parties were legendary. |
After retiring from LBUSD in 1983, Dennis had a second career for the next 24 years selling financial products primarily to educators. During this time, he also was able to exercise his passion for golf, both with long time friends and the new friends he made at the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach. In 2007, at age 80, Dennis announced he was ready to retire (again). He and Martha, his wife of 36 years, sold their business and moved to Las Vegas where they spent the next 5 years traveling, hosting CA friends and learning to cope with the increasingly debilitating affects of severe asbestosis acquired in the Navy. |
Dennis is survived by his devoted wife, Martha; son Dennis (Jill); daughter Denine Kelly (Chris); brother Jim (Deborah); sister Cathy Ostoich (Richard) and grandchildren Kathryn, Dennis, Cara and Julia. At Dennis' request there will be no service or memorial but he was hopeful that whenever you hear Louis Armstrong sing "What a Wonderful World' you will take a second to recall a special "Dennis memory." ~Martha Keizer~ |
